I was really hoping that Jacob would give me a good "labor" day, but that wasn't the case at all unfortunately.

It started with about 3 hours of painful pitocin induced contractions, then they finally gave me an epidural, only to have them accidentally tap spinal fluid giving me an instant headache!

It took another few hours (with a pounding headache) to get to 9 centimeters. Just as we nearly got to the pushing stage, his heart rate fell to a deceleration and was having trouble recovering - an indication that the cord was either blocked or around his neck. So, a team of doctors, nurses and anesthesiologists ran us to the OR for a stat C-section. I couldn't stop crying. Fortunately, he was born minutes later and was screaming like crazy. He's got a really good set of lungs. Much louder than Kayla when she was born.

Since then, he's been eating well but because he and I have different blood types, jaundice might be an issue so they're watching for that. As for me, the headache is gone, only to be replaced by a really, really sore stomach. Ouch.

  1. Oh Bobbie,
I am so sorry that you went through all that. How scary (as well as painful). He looks beautiful and blissfully unaware of what he put you guys through. :-)
We are all so very, very happy for you all. Please take care of yourself.
    Love,
    Kate
